Our table was a bit wobbly (I hate to nitpick but when you are cutting you do notice it) but comfortable for two people to sit at. Comfy seating compliment the tables. Our server, Joy…was a joy to have as a server. She was extremely attentive to us and told us of all the specials they had going on. She informed us of a Wine Tasting dinner they have going on April 12th. Give them a call for details, could be some fun! The Menuhttp://vervecleveland.com/VC/menus/Verve_Lunch.pdf
Verve has an exciting and creative menu. They take pride in bringing different tastes to the lunch table. You can tell this by their menu. They have everything from Sloppy Doe (BBQ Vennison, yes..Bambi’s mom met her demise)…to a Duck and Chicken Pot Pie. A variety of salads and Sando’s (sandwiches, burgers, etc) also pepper the menu. The nice thing is…everything’s different. It’s not your normal, everyday mill of the run type of place. They all have their unique spin on things. And I, for one, appreciate that in a place. One thing I did find odd was that appetizers weren’t available for lunch, only dinner. I guess that’s all right if you want to keep a fresh amount of food on hand but you should probably have some apps for lunch ready and available too. You never know when a foodie like me will walk in your doors. They tote their menu as “Creative comfort food reinvented with the flavors and ingredients of the world”. I’d have to agree with them. They have both a lunch and dinner menu and both of them looked extremely appealing to the eye. The menu could maybe use some more verbiage to describe some of the food (not all people will know that speck is an Italian bacon) but our server Joy was quick to answer questions and even seemed to read our minds a few times about questions we hadn’t even thought of yet. The pricing seemed decent enough ($7-$12 for lunch items, $3-$5 for sides and garden salads) taking into the fact you’re in more of an upscale (yet casual) place. One thing that impressed Chris and I was the time it took to get our food, only about 10 minutes. The place had other diners in it too and everyone else seemed to be having a nice lunch. The FOOD As a warm up, they bring bread to your table with a triangle of butter, that’s always a nice touch. I just got back from Chicago a few days ago and one thing I really missed out on eating out there was a SuperDog. When looking at the menu at Verve, I wanted to still get something that speaks to the common in all of us…and they had just that. The Underdog is a chorizo sausage “hot dog”, served “Chicago-style” in a sense with coleslaw, pickles, fried egg and mustard. Let me stop and tell you now…this is a great dish! For those of you whom like spicy food (like me) this is a great lunch for you to get. I love chorizo and the variety they serve at Verve ( I made a rhyme) is excellent. I like that it’s served with the coleslaw, egg and pickles. Takes some of the spice and pulls it back a little bit. We also tried the Verve fries which our served with a side of sausage gravy. A little Canadian…but tasty! I liked it a lot. They have good crispy fries and the gravy had a great flavor to it. Chris got the Lamb Stroganoff. Chris said he’d take one for the team. He asked what was popular and Joy said that the Lamb Stroganoff is popular at lunch and at dinner. The Lamb Stroganoff is served with Shiitake mushrooms, greek yogurt, onions and basmati rice. “It’s tasty” Chris says, “but something you’d probably order for your grandpa.” With Chris you never know what he means sometimes. He was eating light today because he has a tryout for the Cleveland Browns QB position, I guess ;). All kidding aside, he wanted to try something out for our audience who doesn’t always want a sandwich or a burger…so next time you see Chris…say thanks to him for that. He liked the dish but didn’t necessarily think he’d order it for lunch again, thinks it was more of a dinner dish. Our innocent bystander also had the Underdog. Her words to us were “This place has too much imagination”. Now, she said that in a totally good way, meaning that all of their dishes are unique and inspiring. It’s really a place that does a lot with different flavors and ingredients. Departing Will we come back? I know I will. There’s a few items on the menu that I want to wrap my brain around, not to mention my mouth. I left Verve feeling full…but not overly stuffed. That’s important when eating lunch downtown. You’re at work, you want a good meal so you can attack the rest of your day with vigor. Verve gives you that. A great place to take clients, friends or even romantic interests…one thing is for certain, there was nothing bittersweet about the lunch symphony we had to EAT. |
