The Market
Review by Joel KirkAmTrust Building The Market is a nice place for a quick lunch in downtown Cleveland that doesn’t “feel quick.” It has freshly prepared foods with food bought from local farms. It’s a nice alternative to all the fast food joints and a place where you can watch your wallet and your waistline. You’ll pay a little bit more for the food but the fact you are seeing it prepared before you with fresh ingredients makes it more worthwhile. The place/atmosphere:The Market is right in the middle of downtown on East 9th street. At lunchtime, you’ll have to expect to see all the young professionals who are trying to impress one another with their taste in food. However, for most of us, this is to be expected and easy to deal with. If it’s your first time going to the market, figuring out which line to get in might be a little tricky but you’ll get the idea soon. You can choose from the coffee bar, a pizza and pasta station, The Grille (where you can get burgers, fries, Kebab’s, grilled chicken sandwiches, etc.), the Panini line and the Soup and Salad Bar line. A lot to take in but also a lot of food items to choose from, so that’s a plus. You should try to get their a little before noon as the lines get pretty busy right at lunch time. What was ordered:Joel: Make your Own Salad: For $8.62 I got a large salad with Ranch dressing and 6 toppings (onions, tomatoes, pasta, cheese, mushrooms and olives) and a 20 ounce bottle of soda. What really makes this salad bar special, is they have a lot of different items you can put onto your salad. It’s also put together for you by a cook without having to worry about running your head into a sneeze-guard. What really made this salad over the top good for me were the mushrooms. They were excellent. They weren’t cut or diced but whole mushrooms and sauteed in spices and olive oil. Fantastic!
Chris: Specialty Burger at the Grille: Chris got the Specialty burger, which was a Patty Melt at the Grille station. It came on a multigrain bread with garlic butter and had sauteed mushrooms and onions topped off with Swiss cheese. It came with a side of fries for $9.00. Chris really liked the sandwich but couldn’t finish it in one sitting. Chris is also sometimes a woman when it comes to eating lunch so this is to be expected. of course, when he went up to ask for a box, the burly chef who cooked it said “Hell, the Patty Melt is a lot of burger, I can’t even finish one of these myself”. So, maybe there’s something to be said for that. Innocent bystander:
This week’s innocent bystander had the Chicken Quesadilla. I almost went with this myself as I have a huge weakness for anything Mexican. Yes, ANYTHING. This came in at $6.75 and was a mouthful for the person eating it. They were very happy with their meal and asked me to stop taking pictures of their food. Hour Later Review:Things are good. Nothing rumbly in the tummy. have to say, one of the better after lunch feelings in a while. Probably cause you are eating fresh food. Would we go back:Absolutely. It’s a good place to eat and get a fresh lunch made fast. It’s perfect for those who are a little more health conscious and want to still eat good at lunchtime. The variety of foods really makes it stand out in the downtown area. heard they have a nice wine bar happy hour…so check back again for a review of that in the near future. |
