So, we decided to class it up a little bit today after our forray into the world of Parma and Chili earlier in the week.  Porcelli’s Bistro is a local Italian restaurant that has an array of dishes, from sandwiches and burgers to full-blown entrees. Their website is

Our systems needed a little higher quality food after what we shoved down our throats earlier in the week.  Porcelli’s definitely delivers.  It’s a nicer place that you could take business clients to…or just sit at the bar and relax.  It got pretty busy at noon.  We got there at 11:30 AM and had the place to ourselves.  If you can get there early, seating is limited and it would definitely benefit you if you’re on a lunch time crunch.

The place/atmosphere:

The dining room is a really nice trendy little setting.  From the colors on the wall to the minimalist art on the walls, Porcelli’s comes across very professional, contemporary and a nice place to dine.  It’s simple lines draw your eye to the large bar where once can relax and unwind at lunch/after work. It’s in a good location for this type of place.  East 6th is a really happening place for lunch.  with a variety of cafe’s, deli’s and restaurants, Porcelli’s is a nice break from the regular and definitely worth it.  The servers are all friendly and attentive and provided us with good service.  So, she might have messed up our drink order…but with our dashing good looks…some things just do happen…

What was ordered:

Joel:  We started out with a calamari  appetizer.  The calamari here is excellent.  The flour it and lightly fry it to give it a slight crunch.  Most places over fry their calamari and it loses it’s taste.  Not the case here.  It’s the best calamari I’ve had since moving to Ohio.  And that coming from a Bay Area boy should mean something. It’s served with marinara sauce and a Cajun Mayo.  For my lunch dish, I ordered their signature sandwich, the Chicken Pesto with Roasted Red Pepper.  Wow.  This is a good sandwich.  What really makes it fantastic is the Roasted Red pepper that graces the pesto’d chicken breast.  I got my sandwich with a side pasta salad.  The pasta salad was different than most places I’ve had in Cleveland.  It was dressed in a vinaigrette and served with greek olives.  It had a real zest to it that most places don’t have.  Most pasta salads I’ve had our really creamy and chalky.  This was neither.  Really a nice sidekick to the sandwich.

Chris: He went the Chicken Parmesan sandwich and fries route.   This comes served on the same bread as the Pesto sandwich, which is also grilled.  Chris was worried at first with the bread.  he thought it might get in the way of the sandwich…but later stated he regretted saying that.  The bread is great.  It adds a visual element to the sandwiches as well that you don’t get anywhere else.

Innocent bystander:

When we got to Porcelli’s, there was not an innocent bystander there.  It was just Chris and I.  By the time we left, there were a lot of people there but all were busy business people who didn’t look to be bothered.  That usually doesn’t stop me but I like talking to the person who’s eating by themselves about their lunch.  Everyone here was in groups.

Hour Later Review:

Fine.  Great.  No news to report.  A solid effort here folks.

Would we go back:

Sure thing.  It’s a good bite to eat downtown.  It’s a nice place to take clients or go with co workers for a sit-down meal.  I’m glad we went there as it’s been a place we’ve walked by numerous times.  We always thought it was a bit too fancy but with their lunch prices, it’s really worth stopping in and checking out for yourselves.
