The Boneyard

When deciding where to go to lunch today, we took a look at our wallets and said “Hey, we’ve got a gift card to The Boneyard, let’s go try it out for food”.  It’s amazing the power a gift card can have on the decision making process.  A bit more “chain restaurant” than we normally would want to review…but not necessarily a place one would think to go to for good eats.  After our lunch there, I can now consider The Boneyard a place to grab some good grub.

The place/atmosphere:

The Boneyard is a casual grill experience that is LOADED with Flat Screen HDTV’s.  Every seat in the dining area has a good view of one of their TV’s.  This was a smaller Boneyard than some of the other ones I’ve been to as I didn’t see pool tables and too many video games.  Let’s be honest, everyone likes the idea of an adult Chuck E. Cheese, right!  What?  Is that just me?  The menu has Thumbs-up on some of their food items.  We were told that means those items were good.  Does that mean if there’s not a Thumbs-up next to it…those items aren’t good?  Our server was friendly and explained to us that The Boneyard is known for their Ribs, Pulled Pork and Burgers.

What was ordered:

Joel: The guys at Eating Around Town are always on the prowl for the perfect plate of nachos.  How can you ever go wrong with a plate of chips, cheese, salsa, beans and chicken?  You just can’t.  It’s what heaven should be.  The perfect plate of nachos.  Yum…

Anyhow, we ordered their chicken nachos as an appetizer.  One interesting thing they ask you is if you’d rather have cheese sauce or melted shredded cheese.  That’s unique that they give you that choice.  We went with the shredded cheese as it seemed the healthier? choice.  There’s something about cheese sauce that sometimes frightens me. They serve their nachos with salsa and sour cream for dipping.  It’s a good plate of nachos…but not quite the heavenly plate it could be.

For my lunch, I ordered one of the things they are supposedly known for.  The Pulled Pork Sandwich.  The sandwich was good though it wasn’t what I expected.  When ordering BBQ, I like mine to have a bit of a kick to it.  This is a sweet BBQ sauce and the sandwich I got didn’t even have too much of the sauce on it.  The sandwich is also served with coleslaw in the middle, so be prepared for that.  I ordered the Cajun fries as my side but was brought regular fries instead.  So, all in all…while the food was GOOD…it didn’t meet the spicy factor I was hoping achieve.

Chris:  When Chris ordered the Boneyard Burger, I never expected him to finish it.  It’s 2 beef patties, a huge onion ring bacon, tomato and cheese between buns.  It’s just a monstrous burger and one that is one of the signature dishes of this place. Not only did he finish it off (which is amazing) but he said it was one of the best burgers he’s ever had.

The burger is served with a Creole mayo which Chris loved.  I dipped my fries in this mayo and instantly echoed the same sentiment shared by Chris.  There’s something magical about this Creole mayo.

Innocent bystander:

The person we talked to about their food experience had ordered the Sesame Chicken started for their lunch.  Not the type of place I would think to order Asian cusine but after seeing it served and hearing how good it tasted ,this started might be worth a shot next time I’m there. This person seemed to really enjoy their food but not too excited to talk to me about it.  Oh well.

Hour Later Review:

I think it might have been the nachos…

Would we go back:

Sure.  Chris said he could eat that burger everyday.  Wow, I don’t want to think about that.  I don’t think being 400 pounds would suit Chris very well.  But, you get the idea.  It’s good food and a good time for a lunch.  It’s not a place you’d take a date.  It’s a place you go with a couple of your guy friends, watch the game and kick back a few beers.  I always thought of The Boneyard as a bar with games…but not can call it a good place to eat.  I like having my mind changed…on some things…
