A bar is a welcome place to sit as well if you want to get in and get out quick. This is definitely a casual place. A place to sit back, forget the fact that you’re in cold Cleveland Ohio and imagine you’re on a beach somewhere away from it all…and by beach, I mean not Edgewater Park. What was ordered: Joel: We ordered 2 appetizers, the Caribbean French Fries and the Meatless Nachos. First things first, let’s talk about these “french fries”. For those who haven’t had Caribbean French Fries…get in your car, follow the address up top to get to Johnny Mangos, sit down, order them and FREAKING ENJOY THE SMACK OUT OF THEM! Wow, these were amazing! What is a Caribbean French Fry? It is a fried Plantain fruit, cut into manageable slices and served with their house salsa. Now a Plantain is a sweeter fruit but the heat from the salsa does a great job of balancing the flavors in your mouth. This was an extremely appetizing order. I will go back to eat these soon.
Also, in the spirit of trying to find the perfect nachos, we ordered their Meatless Nachos. These nachos were good…but they still aren’t the perfect nachos. They could have used a bit more cheese and a little less black beans but were still a good start to the meal. What made these better was the House Salsa from Johnny Mango. Their salsa is very fresh and extremely tasty. I consider myself to be a salsa-connoisseur of sorts (self-imposed) and this is one of the better restaurant salsas I’ve had in Cleveland. For my main dish, I really wanted to try their Pad-Thai but I figured that wouldn’t be too much of a lunch menu item. Right now, our site is dedicated to finding some of the better lunch menus in Cleveland so I ordered their Chorizo and Potato burrito. As a spicy food lover, I thoroughly enjoy a good hot chorizo. This chorizo wasn’t quite as hot as some I’ve had in the past but still had a great kick to it. The burrito can be ordered solo (with chips and salsa) or as part of their Big Plate. The Big Plate comes with chips salsa, beans and grains of the day, a Yucatan slaw and grilled Banana with Lime. I really wish I would have ordered it Big Plate style but with the appetizers I had consumed, just didn’t think I could stomach all of that.
Rick: Chris had to take a day off from Eating Around Town, so my buddy Rick stepped in as his worthy replacement. Rick ordered the Black Bean and Chicken Quesadilla. He said it was awesome…then wanted me to quote him as saying “This Quesadilla is good shit!” Well, can you really get any more honest than that? He obviously enjoyed his lunch as I caught him licking his plate once all signs of food were gone from it.  Innocent bystander:The IB of the day had a Steak and Black Bean Quesadilla. Her words to me were “It’s delicious. The steak is very tender”. By my count, that’s three people eating…three people satisfied. Johnny Mango should be very happy to know this. Hour Later Review:Well, there were a lot of beans consumed… Would we go back:For sure! I want to go back just to try some of their more dinner-type entrees! Ok, I’m not going to lie, I also want to get drunk on their margarita’s one day very soon as well. I can see this becoming a favorite of mine really quick. It’s got some of my favorite Mexican dishes but also has enough other food to keep you coming back and trying more. Thank you Johnny Mango for a fantastic lunch! |
