It’s like a time warp happened here and that’s meant in a good way. As you approach the other dining room, the line starts. What’s this? Yes, it’s a line to get your food.
The food is served cafeteria style, so grab your tray and start picking what you want! As you make your way through the line, you get to see the helpings of the other ood you could have gotten. Everything here is served HUGE. It’s incredible. Sokolowski’s is definitely a place you must go to if you’re a Clevelander or if you’re in town for a few days. What was ordered:Joel: Well, I went with the Meatloaf meal. First off, the meatloaf was seriously the size of my head. Ok, maybe not quite that big (my head is abnormally large) but the size of this meatloaf warrants a meal all in itself. The fact that it is served with your choice of 2 sides and a roll ( I went with mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans) is almost silly. I’m a huge fan of meatloaf (no, not the singer) and this meatloaf rivals any meatloaf I’ve ever eaten…even my mom’s. Whenever you can say something is better than your mom’s…you know it has to be good. It’s like someone came across the recipe for AWESOME and made it into this meatloaf. Being the idiot that I am, I also ordered the noodle and cabbage salad to eat more of the Polish style food. Wow, this was really good too. This is the one place we’ve eaten at so far that I haven’t been able to clean my plate. There’s just too much food! I washed it all down with a Sokolowski’s diet Root Beer that they make. Funny, I order all that food and then get a Diet Root Beer. What the hell is wrong with me? Guess I wanted to save a few calories…
Chris: He went the Salisbury Steak route. Remember when you used to get served this in 4th grade on Thursday’s in the school cafeteria? Either you loved it or you hated it…but you knew every Thursday…it would be on the menu. Well, there was no way around Chris ordering this. He loved Salisbury Steak Day and he loved what he got served at Sokolowski’s. He said the Steak is very tender (how can it not be, it was literally taking a bath in gravy). This is also served with 2 sides and a roll. Chris went the route of mashed ‘taters and corn. Said it was one of the best things he’s shoved down his throat in a while. Innocent bystander:Can not tell what they had. Their plate was DEMOLISHED by the time we talked to them. When I asked them if they enjoyed their food experience at Sokolowski’s…the first thing out was a burp. I’ll just take that as a “Yes”.
Hour Later Review:Well, there’s only so much space for food to fit… Would we go back:In a heartbeat. I want to go back and try some of their other dishes. They have pierogies, kielbasa and other traditional Polish food that I’d really like to eat. This is a Cleveland staple and a place that will hopefully never change. It’s the perfect place to go into a food coma. Go there, not expecting to eat everything on your plate…but as one of their entrance sign says “Enter as Strangers, Leave as Friends”…this could easily be changed “Enter as Strangers, Leave 2 pounds heavier and happier” |
