What was ordered:Joel: I had the Calzone special and the Italian Wedding soup. Now, I’m not usually a fan of Wedding soup but this soup was fantastic. It’s much different than any other wedding soup I’ve ever tasted. For $2.50, you get 12 ounces of their homemade recipe, topped with Romano cheese. I had a pepperoni and mozzarella Calzone (the Calzone special varies daily with selections such as spinach & ricotta cheese, sausage & sweet peppers, etc.) For those of you not familiar with a Calzone, it is a turnover made from their homemade pizza dough, then stuffed with ingredients. And when I say stuffed…it is BULGING with food inside of it. They don’t leave much room for air in their packaging. It’s filled to the brim…and for $3.50…it’s a HELL of a deal. Served with a side of their house marinara sauce, this makes for a very filling lunch. As an appetizer, we got a bag of their “Pizza Sticks” for $1. This was dough baked with marinara sauce and cheese. Really good and an excellent value. I dipped my sticks into their House Italian dressing. Their dressing was fantastic. I had heard stories about how good their dressing was. After tasting it, I now know I need to go there and buy a jar or bottle of it. I can’t imagine my next Italian salad NOT being topped with their dressing. Yes, it is that good.
Chris: He ordered their Stromboli and Wedding Soup. The Stromboli is a hot baked sandwich made with homemade pizza dough. According to them, their family recipe combines secret spices with several premium Italian deli meats and cheeses. Served with a side of tomato sauce. What are these secret spices?!?! Don’t hold out on us like this! Chris says Alesci’s is a great place to go in downtown Cleveland for “Cheap, homemade Italian goodness”. I agree with Chris on this one. You really can’t beat the price. Chris paid only $5 for his Stromboli and it’s HUGE. Sure beats paying $5 for…well…you know how that jingle goes. Innocent bystander:The innocent bystander we talked to had a slice of their pizza AND the Stromboli. He wouldn’t let us take a picture of it because he was afraid of us taking the “soul of his food” away from him. Wow, the people downtown sure are fun. Anyhow, he said there was no way he could’ve eaten both things at lunch and doesn’t know why he even tried. He ended up taking most of the Stromboli with him as a parting gift. Hour Later Review:All’s well. Thinking it must be the quality of the food. Would we go back:Yes. The great thing about Alesci’s is their ever changing menu. You can always go back and get different food items. Every day has specials, according to their website at http://www.alescisdowntown.com/menu.php: DAILY SPECIALS ………………….$6.50 Each day of the week we feature a luncheon special. These are some of our customers’ most loved recipes. Entrees are served with homemade garlic bread. Monday – Stuffed Chicken, baked breast of chicken filled with broccoli and swiss cheese. Out of these specials, I’ve had the Lasagna. It’s incredible. Lasagna is near the tops of the list of fave foods and there’s is really good. Especially for $6.50!!! Thank you Alesci’s for giving us lunchers in Cleveland good cheap Homemade Italian. Our bellies and wallets BOTH approve! |
