What was ordered:Joel: I ordered the Apollo sandwich. It was advertised as “Out of this World”. Oh, I get it. It’s a pun. How fun. Before we got our sandwiches, they brought us a tray of pickles made in their deli. They’re pretty good pickles but could use a little more “kick” to them. They were a little bland. Maybe that’s why they had a “Pickle Sale” going on.
The Apollo sandwich wasn’t “out of this world” but it was a good sandwich. It’s got imported ham, roast turkey, Swiss cheese, cole slaw, lettuce, tomato and Thousand Island dressing on French bread. It is also served with a cup of potato salad. I ate the whole thing don’t get me wrong…I just think if you advertise something as “Out of this World” then do something to it that makes it a bit different. Putting Cole Slaw on a sandwich isn’t ground-breaking by any means. However, it was a good sandwich and as you can see from the pic, it is a really good sized and tasty sandwich. I added some Stadium mustard to it for a little kick. I recommend doing that if you order this sandwich.
Chris: He ordered Sauerkraut balls as an appetizer. Now, normally I’m not the biggest appraiser of Sauerkraut balls. I’m not a real big fan of Sauerkraut in general. However, these were really good. Their recipe calls for some Corn Beef Hash to be mixed in with the Sauerkraut and it was really good. Easily the best balls I’ve ever eaten. Wait a second.
As his lunch, Chris got the Quesadilla Reuben. This is a flour tortilla wrapped around corned beef with melted Swiss cheese and sauerkraut. It’s also served with a cup of potato salad and a side of Thousand Island for dipping. Chris said this was definitely something he’d come back to this place for. Very tasty and filling. He had to take half of it home with him. I have to admit…after seeing what Chris got I was a little jealous. I should’ve ordered that. Innocent bystander:Our innocent bystander had the #9 which is a Roast Turkey and Swiss Cheese sandwich served on Rye bread with lettuce, tomato, Thousand Island dressing and a cup of cole slaw. This sandwich was STUFFED. Take a look that the pic below. Our bystander ate his entire sandwich no problem. He said it was an OK sandwich. Was really hungry which is why he ate it all. He did say it seemed to have been missing “something” that could’ve put it over the edge. Sounds kind of like my expereince with the Apollo. I added Stadium Mustard to it and that seemed to help…but when you’re charging around $10 for deli sandwiches…you’ve got to bring a bit more to the table in my opinion. Hour Later Review:Was fine here. No issues. Probably since the food wasn’t very spicy or anything like that. Would we go back:Well, this isn’t necessarily a place I’d go out of my way to go to. IF I’m in the area, sure I’ll go. It’s got good food and an extensive menu so maybe next time I should try something different. I saw “Out of this World” so I went for it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a Home run for me. For the cost of this lunch (with soda and sandwich and tip) around $16…I would have expected a little bit more. It’s good quality meat, there’s no denying that but I was left wanting a little more taste. |
