The place/atmosphere:

Vintage Cleveland.  That’s what the West Side Market Cafe is. Anyone who lives in Cleveland knows the West Side Market, right?  If you don’t, I highly recommend you familiarize yourself with the West Side Market.  It’s a place where you can get all the freshest meats, produce, breads and cheeses anywhere in the city.

It’s a fantastic place and way to do your grocery shopping.  Well, with that, they also have their own little Cafe where you can grab a bite of prepared food to eat.  When you walk into the Cafe, you immediately recognize the Diner feel of the place.   You can sit at the bar or at booths and tables to get service.  It just felt like a “neighborhood” type of place that was full of regulars.

The waitress knew the names of many of the people in the place and they all ordered the “usual” from her. The walls are donned with nothing but Cleveland pictures or sports team memorabilia.  It’s everything Cleveland diners and dives should be in appearance.  a comfortable place that is proud of its roots.

One thing I had to laugh at though about the atmosphere was someone forgot to take down the Christmas decoration from my table.  I don’t want Santa eatin’ my sammich!

What was ordered:

Joel:  Started with a basket of fries and ordered the Turkey Bacon Swiss Wrap Special that came with a cup of Steak and Potato soup.  The best thing about this wrap was how fresh the turkey tasted.  It was extremely juicy turkey and you could taste the Market freshness in each bite. The bacon was exactly how it should be in a wrap, crunchy and I appreaciated that it wasn’t soggy.

Overall, the wrap was fairly average though.  It could have used something to liven it up a bit.  I really liked the Steak and Potato soup.  It was a tasty soup that really hit the spot.

Chris: He ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich special with a cup of Chili.  This came on Ciabatta bread and served with a pickle and chips.

Chris reported that it was a pretty good sandwich but not necessarily one he would order again if he came back.  The Chili was pretty good and extremely fresh.  With huge onion and tomato chunks noticeably seen in the cup, you can tell what it was made from.

Innocent bystander:

We heard our innocent bystander BOASTING about the pancakes served at the West Side Market Cafe.  He brought 2 friends in with him to enjoy some with him and the waitress greeted him and let everyone within earshot know that he was their “best pancake salesman”.  I knew this was a guy I had to go talk to.  When talking to him about his food, he even let me know that he puts up signs around his office talking about how good the pancakes are at the West Side Market Cafe.  He got Blueberry pancakes with a side of hashbrowns for his lunch.

Hour Later Review:

No problems here Houston.

Would we go back:

Well, after talking with the innocent bystander and hearing everyone else ordering breakfast foods…we think we might have ordered the wrong things on our trip.  I’ve also recently heard good thing about their Salmon BLT and a few of their other menu items.  Are lunch was good…but not GREAT…which is what we’re looking for and what we want to report on.  I’m definitely going to go back here one day for lunch but will probably be eating some pancakes.  They really did look amazing.
